Description
Avichai’s performing career spans two major chapters: first his international journey in classical music, which included Assistant Principal Flute of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim, Lorin Maazel and Kurt Masur), solo appearances in major music festivals (Radio France Festival, Rolandseck Chamber Music Festival) and winning first prizes in competitions (National Flute Association – U.S.A; Paul Ben Haim – Israel). Then Avichai decided to seek new artistic challenges in the realm of Jazz. Despite his relatively few years on the scene, Avichai has already established his reputation as one of Israel’s leading Jazz artists, making music together with influential figures such as Branford Marsalis, Eric Revis, Eli Degibri, Olivier Hutman and Omer Klein. He performs regularly in Europe with world-renowned contemporary klezmer band Kolsimcha and has worked with Israeli popular music icons Yoni Rechter and Shem-Tov Levy. He currently leads his own quartet, writing and performing music influenced by ethnic Mediterranean styles, traditional hard bop Jazz as well as New York’s modern Jazz. Avichai’s debut jazz album “Sneakin’ In” is planned to be released in the summer of 2016 on French label Jazz Family.
