Description
This study by the Pajarito Ornithological Survey represents a major landmark in New Mexico ornithology, as it is the first atlas of the state. Fro readers not familiar with the atlas approach, it is the systematic survey of the birds of a prescribed area over several consecutive years to document the avian species that breed there. The gathering and publishing of such data are important to document the status and distribution of birds of such areas, but also to provide another means for monitoring nature. Many species of breeding birds provide valuable insights about the condition of the environment, which is very valuable knowledge in these times of increasing stresses on the natural world.
