Description
VHS tape. 132 minutes, color. Barbra Streisand and Nick Nolte are wonderful here in a screen adaptation of the wonderful novel by Pat Conroy. After you’ve watched this first-rate film, make sure you pick up a copy of the novel; it is a beautifully written. Streisand, who also directs, is a psychiatrist determined to help a Southern coach who remembers his troubled sister and their early years together. The film and the book deal with such matters as learning to forgive and how that type of acceptance leads to liberation. There are some other wonderful players here, including Blythe Danner, Kate Nelligan, Melinda Dillon, and even an appearance by Streisand’s son, Jason Gould.
