Book by Dr. Jack Sanders
From AudioFile
Good history is such a joy. This program’s pedestrian title gives no clue to the treasure-trove of information it contains. We learn how the library at Alexandria fired the ancient imagination, the real impetus behind alchemy and why the early theory of inertia was considered heretical. Edwin Newman’s authoritative narration and the interesting, accented, sometimes eccentric voices representing historical characters and contemporary experts on the subject make this a wonderful listening experience. Newman moves at a lively pace, and musical bridges separate major ideas or periods. Only some overpowering cameo voices detract from this terrific program. R.I.G. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
