Beside the Seaside 1:25 — 10. The Play 4:18 — — — — Title track “Golden Gray” is a highlight of the record and shows off the band’s penchant for creating visual, cinematic music. It’s a thousand-yard-stare of a song, beautiful. “The Play” closes the record with a duet featuring fellow Whale Heart artist, Grace Bellury (Lille). Lyrically, the dissolution of a relationship is understood, but there is a greater knowing in both characters that there are no goodbyes, only a cycle of coming and going. Keith Forrester of Little Horn contributes to the three part harmony during the crescendo of the song and Daniel Whitt plays drums as he does on many songs on the record. Together the songs of Golden Gray display the band’s range and show off the musical muscle of the artist community that is Whale Heart Records. At heart, Duchess Leo is a duo comprised of an electronic music producer and a singer/songwriter. Golden Gray expands that sonic pallet to include more players while focusing on the songs and the result is a confident, elegant record. Duchess Leo’s hand shake with the world and the first big step in the growth of a young band. Limited Edition of 400?
